Dimensions of Movement: Sense Your Self
Sara Vatore
I'm so excited to be returning to the Natural Living Expo this November! It's an event I look forward to every year, and I'm excited to once again be part of this incredible weekend as both an exhibitor and workshop facilitator. This year, I'll be offering something a little different with my workshop: Sense Your Self – A Somatic Movement Experience.
As I've been preparing for the Expo, I've been reflecting on my lifelong relationship with movement, the ways it's supported me through different seasons of life, and how essential it has been in helping me connect with and understand myself more fully.
Movement has been part of my world for as long as I can remember. From choreographing dances in my living room as a kid, to spending all of my free time at the studio, to teaching dance classes as a teenager, movement was always a natural part of how I expressed myself. After an ankle surgery my junior year in high school, I stopped dancing abruptly, without really recognizing how significant that loss was.
It wasn't until I discovered Nia in my 30s that I began to reconnect with this part of myself again. As I began to slow down and create space for movement, I started to recognize just how disconnected I'd become from myself, my emotions, and my needs. Movement gave me a space to process and integrate what I was experiencing without needing to understand it all or even have words for it. Through listening to sensation and following my body's impulses, I began to wake up to myself in ways I hadn't experienced in years.
This is what we're exploring in this episode.
We spend an enormous amount of time in our heads, thinking, planning, analyzing, trying to understand what's happening within us and around us. We're navigating relationships, responsibilities, expectations, emotions, and all the complexity that comes with being human. Along the way, we develop patterns of holding ourselves, responding to others, and moving through the world that can disconnect us from our own needs, desires, and authentic expression.
What happens when we create space to simply be with what's present?
What if we didn't have to know exactly what we're feeling, why we're feeling it, or what it all means?
What if we could allow our bodies to move, express, process, and integrate without needing to figure everything out?
This is one of the things I love most about intuitive movement. It offers us an opportunity to follow the body's natural impulses, to allow energy and emotion to move, and to create more space within ourselves for all that we're experiencing.
Inside this episode, we explore:
The role movement has played throughout my life and my journey of returning to dance after years away
How somatic movement can support emotional expression, self-awareness, and connection to the body
What becomes possible when we allow the body to lead, without needing to analyze or understand everything.
The ways our roles, responsibilities, and habitual patterns can pull us away from connecting to ourselves.
Following sensation, impulse, and desire through intuitive movement.
Creating space to process and integrate emotions, experiences, and the energies we carry.
The importance of returning to the practices that nourish and support us, even when we've stepped away from them.
Join me at The Natural Living Expo this year on November 14–15, 2026, in Marlborough, Massachusetts. There will be 225 vendors, 60 workshops, delicious food, and an incredible variety of opportunities to explore holistic health, wellness, personal growth, and more.
I'll be at Booth #11 throughout the weekend (across from the food!), and I'd love to connect with you!
On Sunday, November 15, at 12 PM in Salon E, I'll be facilitating Sense Your Self – A Somatic Movement Experience.
Through guided intuitive movement, we'll explore sensation, follow the body's impulses, and create space for expression, processing, and integration. This experience is open to everyBODY, with options for standing, floor, or chair-based participation. No dance or movement experience is needed, and there is no one way to move.
You can learn more about the event and find tickets at naturalexpo.org.
If this episode resonates with you, please share it with someone in your world who might need it too. And as always, thank you for listening and being here.
