a dream exploration: the fog clears and the shoreline is revealed

Sara Vatore

May the fog clear and the shoreline be revealed.

You are closer than you think. Your fear is not what it seems.

Earlier in the year, I made a commitment to deepening the exploration of my dreamspaces. I have been studying and working more closely with my dreams on my own, 1-1 with a Magickal Jewish Jungian Dream Witch, and also completed a 10 week group Creative DreamWork course with Wilka Roig. Through this course, one of my significant take-aways is how much our dreams are not only here to serve and provide guidance for our own process, but they also hold potent messages and mirroring for others.

My dream is your dream and your dream is my dream.

Because of our connection together in the collective unconscious, when we hear a dream, we can filter it, listen to it and process it as if we dreamed the dream. From this place we can gain insight about what is going on personally for each of us, based on our response to hearing the dream, the associations with the symbols and aspects of the dream that spark something within us about our individual process, life, connections, etc.

I most recently have been working with a dream intention of collective healing. I had a dream a few weeks ago that may have some threads of insight for you and your process. Particularly with the energetic theme of this month being Patience and Illumination (click here to read the May Energies blog), this dream felt significant to share right now. If you are called, I invite you to read below and take it in as if you were the one who dreamed the dream and see what truths emerge for you.

The Fog Clears and the Shoreline is Revealed

I’m with my mom, my uncle and my 8 year old son sitting on a small sandbar in the middle of the ocean. We are not in the water at first, but there is water all around us. We are resting. The shoreline is ahead, we think, but it is very foggy and there is water between where we sit and where there is land. From all directions we just see the ocean. I am looking for land, but it is hard to see any indication of an edge of shoreline because of all the fog. I keep looking, searching for land and I am curious how we are going to get back. Land seems far away. After a while we are now floating in the water, treading water easefully. I look over to where my mom and uncle are and I realize the waves are starting to get bigger. They are small at first, but then start to swell and get larger. I yell to my mom to be careful, because of the size of the waves and my son is closer to her and still can’t swim. One of the large waves gets closer to him and I try to swim out and save him. It crashes over him, just as I am about to reach his body. He goes under, but pops back up suddenly, standing with a smile on his face. The water is now not that deep, it is only at his ankles. I am relieved and turn to face the fog. It starts to clear before my eyes and I can now make out the outline of the land. It is MUCH closer than I thought it would be.

Main Takeaway message

You are closer than you think. Your fear is not what it seems. Trust that the fog will clear.

My process, thoughts and discussion:

There are so many ways to look at this dream and the symbols that came up. For me and how it relates to what is going on in my world: many of my dreams have water or more specifically, the ocean in them. The ocean can represent our personal unconscious, or the collective unconscious and also divine feminine energy. This has been a watery time for me. I have been continuing to swim with and explore my personal process, spiritual practices, and multidimensional nature, along with supporting the divine feminine within me, coaxing her to emerge and take the stage. I have been getting clear messages for years that my way is through the feminine. The ocean dreams continue to reinforce this for me.

In navigating my business, an old story that I sometimes spiral into thinking is “I don’t know what I am doing” or “I’m not clear.” I feel as though I can’t see what I am “doing” or where I am headed. I’ve done a lot of work on moving away from this fear, but there is still some residue in my unconscious (which is why the fear shows up in my dreamspace!). When I had the dream I woke up and immediately felt reassured with the crystal clear message that I am headed in the right direction, even if it feels foggy right now. The destination (or shoreline) will be revealed in time and that my fear is not what it seems.

There is a trust element woven in the background of this dream. From the large wave that crashed on my child without drowning him (what I was worried about), to the water only being knee high, to the shoreline being revealed to be much closer than originally perceived, to the fog fading on its own. Everything unfolded as it was meant to.

While there is a lot going on in my own watery depths, our dreams also mirror and provide insight into what is being felt in the collective. This dream invited in some reassurance to the parts of me that are worried about where we are headed as a species. I felt like I can lean into trusting that things will be revealed, no matter how foggy, dysfunctional, far away, or scary they seem at this moment. Accessing patience and trusting that when the fog clears we can be moving towards creating a world we wish to see.

There are so many different ways to think about, play with and explore dreams. I invite you to journal on what this brings up for you as you read my dream as your dream and interpretation.

Do you resonate with how I look at the symbolism?

Does it bring up other layers, angles, perspectives, lenses, ideas for you?

What does the ocean mean to you?

What do you notice when you think about treading in the middle of the ocean without being able to see the shoreline?

There is no one answer here or “right way” to digest and explore a dream. Follow the elements that speak to you and see what truth is revealed!

I would love to know what you uncover! Feel free to send me a message with your take-aways and new awarenesses.
