intentional space is a portal to sensing self

Sara Vatore

I have noticed there is a magnetization about being with my family. There is a particular pull, where I find myself getting sucked into the vortex of being home and playing the wife and mother roles.

They are the well grooved paths in my life. I am good at them. They come easy to me. It feels simple to slide into playing those parts.

What has not been as easy for me (or comfortable) in the past is sitting with my self in the unknown. Being with who I am outside of a mother, wife or caretaker.

Who am I separate from the roles I play?

Who am I BEING in the world?

What are MY needs, wants, desires, feelings and emotions?

I got pregnant with my eldest when I was in my last semester of college at the age of 22. I have not had a lot of space in my life to tune into who I am outside of being a Mother.

I think this is why I am so passionate about talking about SPACE and creating spaces as an integral practice leading us to health and wellness.

I need these spaces to find myself and reconnect with my essence when I get swept up in the day to day.

As a mother and human with a full life, I have to intentionally prioritize taking space for myself.

I have to schedule it and then guard it. I have to honor the importance of it.

When I do not, it is so easy for me to fall back into putting everyone else around me first.

I have gotten really good at finding moments for myself throughout the day. I have become a master at weaving in those spaces for myself.

I homeschool and I work out of my house, so this has not been an easy feat. However, I take pauses for water, MELTing, time outside, breathing, meditation, movement, naps (on the rare chance I can lie down!), etc.

But carving out the longer spaces, more than a pause, takes a larger intentional choice.

At the end of July I took myself on a solo 2 night retreat experience. The last time I had done this for myself was a full year ago.

I am clear moving forward that this is too long to go without having alone space.

In this time away I reconnected to a portal. A portal to return to when I need to sense my self.

Separate from my kids, from the roles I play, from the expectations that I put on my self and my business, a gateway to reconnect to my vibration and how I can energetically BE in the world.

I need to be able to show up in my fullest essence and frequency because that will serve the people in my life in the most generative way.

Can this be as simple as creating space for myself?

Why yes, it can!
